Day 1. Iquitos / Allpahuayo-Mishana / National Reserve (L-D)
Arrival in the Iquitos Airport or pick up to the hotel. Greet and meet by our personnel. Transfer to the Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve located 15 miles from Iquitos on one the side of the road that connects this city with Nauta. This is a 143 thousand-acre varillal or white sand forest reserve in which 300 tree species can be found by hectare; there are also 130 reptile species, and 460 bird species 20 of the related to this type of forests and at least 5 of endemic nature, a record not equaled by any other protected area in the world.

Accommodations at the reserve’s research center. Trail hiking to carry out the first sightings during the rest of the morning
Lunch at the research center facility. Hike on a different trail with the possibility of seeing endemic species as the Iquitos Gnatcatcher. You can also see toucans, cotingas and antwrens. Return to the research center. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2. Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve (B-L-D)
Early in the morning, search for other species such as manakins and trogon-barbets. Along the way you might be able to spot poison frogs (Dendrobates).
Breakfast at the research center. Walk by the side of the Iquitos-Nauta Road where you can find parakeets and parrots feeding on the fruit trees that grow along the way, also other species like caciques, oropendolas, tanangers and pompadour cotinga. Return to the research center and lunch.
In the afternoon, continue hiking on different trails not only to see birds but also different kinds of primates as tamarins, mon sakis and titis that are common to Allpahuayo-Mishana. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3. Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve / Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (B-L-D)
Breakfast. Overland trip to the town of Nauta. Upon arrival you will board the boat that will take you up the Maranon River to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (an approximately 3-hour trip). In the reserve you can see a great diversity of birds including egrets, hawks, horned-screamers, jacanas, parrots and parakeets. It is also possible to spot Amazon River dolphins appearing at the length of the trip. Lunch on board. Arrive in the Arequipa community where camp will be set up.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 4. Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (B-L-D)
Early morning before breakfast you will boat on the Yanayacu-Pucate River to observe parrots, toucans, cara-caras, macaws, horned-screamers and scavangers such as the yellow-headed vulture whose habit is found on the river shores.
Return to the camp. Breakfast.
Hike on the flood forest where it is possible to find the “shansho” or hoatzin, bird with prehistoric like features that feeds on tree leaves and that has claws in the middle of its wing at birth but looses them when it becomes adult. The hoatzin is generally found on the oxbow lake shores.
Return to the camping. Lunch.
In the afternoon you will continue exploring the Yanayacu-Pucate River to discover the more animal life. A new campsite will be determined and set up on course .
By night, you will have the chance to spot caimans and nocturnal birds like the common and great potoos.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 5. Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (B-L-D)
Early in the morning you can delight yourself watching the birds as they come out of their nests to feed on the food the river provides; you will be able to see cotingas, macaws, parrots, king vultures and with a little bit of luck, the Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja). Return to the camp.
Breakfast. Later, hike on trail where it will be possible to spot hummingbirds, mahakins, antwrens, flycatchers, tanagers, finches amongst others. Lunch.
The crew will break camp. Boat down to the Yanayacu-Pucate River mouth for last night campsite setting; return trip to Nauta will start tomorrow from this place.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 6. Pacaya Samiria National Reserve / Nauta / Iquitos (B-L)
Breakfast. Return to the town of Nauta down the Maranon River.
From Nauta, return overland trip to Iquitos.
Arrival in Iquitos. Transfer to your hotel or to the airport at a convenient time.
